Wamp Honors Oak Ridge Climate Scientists

U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., said he was awed by the work of Oak Ridge scientists who contributed to the Nobel Prize-winning work on global climate change.
Wamp came to Oak Ridge National Laboratory on Wednesday to honor five of the lab researchers who worked on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change or supported the reports - the most comprehensive ever done - on the planet’s changing climate.
The congressman acknowledged Tom Wilbanks, Virginia Dale, David Greene, Paul Hanson and David Erickson in a ceremony at ORNL’s Center for Computational Sciences. Some of the climate models are run on lab supercomputers and help scientists better understand the changes taking place and better predict what’s coming in the future. The scientists said the Nobel Prize, which was shared by former Vice President Al Gore, has played a role in changing the public’s perception and understanding of climate change.
