ORNL hires global leader in climate research

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory has a new weapon in the fight to figure out climate change.

“It’s a pretty outstanding laboratory,” says James Hack, Director of the National Center for Computational Sciences at ORNL.

Hack is still finding his way around the ORNL facility. He knows his way around climate research.

“Having someone of Jim Hack’s stature join the lab is really going to strengthen our ability to have those insights and provide that guidance that’s important for policy decisions,” ORNL Director and UT-Battelle CEO Thom Mason said.

Hack is a former senior scientist for the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado.

He has been working at ORNL for just five weeks. One of the things he’s focused on is carbon and how it affects the climate system.
