The Scientific Computing Group (SCG) includes research scientists, visualization specialists, and work-flow experts who work directly with users to enable them to take full advantage of NCCS resources. At its core are the liaisons to the research projects. Members of the SCG group are research scientists who provide a liaison between the users of the high-performance computers of the NCCS and the NCCS itself. They actively participate as part of the research teams, help administer the computers in the NCCS, represent users in NCCS planning, and provide problem-solving support for all users of NCCS systems.
The liaisons are experts in their fields—chemistry, physics, astrophysics, mathematics, numerical analysis, computer science—and in designing code and optimizing it for the NCCS systems. They work with the research teams at a variety of levels, from developing code to troubleshooting. SCG end-to-end experts work to streamline and automate the work flow for system users so that their time is not eaten up by repetitive data-management chores. Once users have completed their runs, SCG’s visualization specialists help them analyze the data they generate and make sense of it by capturing the results in images.
