Hawk will be decommissioned at 08:00 on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. It is being replaced by a a 32 node Linux cluster dedicated to data analysis and high-end visualization named lens. After 08:00 on May 27, users will no longer be able to log into hawk or access data in their /tmp/work/$USER directory on hawk. Users are encouraged to transfer any needed data in their /tmp/work/$USER directory on hawk to the HPSS prior to the decommission of hawk.
Hawk
Hawk is a 64-node Linux cluster dedicated to high-end visualization. Each node contains two single-core Opteron processors and 2 GB of memory. The cluster is connected by a Quadrics Elan3 network, providing high-bandwidth and low-latency communication. The cluster is populated with two flavors of nVidia graphics cards connected with AGP8x: 5900 and QuadroFX 3000G. The nodes with the 3000G cards are directly connected to the EVEREST PowerWall and are reserved for PowerWall use. All nodes have a local scratch space for temporary storage. In addition, there is a shared global scratch space for temporary storage. Longer-term storage is found on the central Network File Service (NFS) mount point with approximately 10 TB of space. Users are encouraged to back up their data to the High Performance Storage System (HPSS) for long-term safekeeping.
