Overview
Recently ORNL systems have been upgraded to Quad core processors, within six months the NICS and LCF systems will be installed with the latest Barcelona node that contains two quad core sockets sharing memory. These new systems have strengths and bottleneck which must be understood to enable large applications to scale to higher number of processors and achieve a higher sustained performance.
NCCS and NICS will jointly sponsor a 3 day workshop covering the important issues in obtaining increased performance. In particular the following topics with be covered:
- XT4 and XT5 architecture
- XT5 NUMA issues
- Programming effectively for the XT4 and XT5
- Using OpenMP on the 4 core XT$ and 8 core XT5
- Optimizing MPI performance on the Seastar Interconnect
- Latest Libraries for the Quad cores
- Using the latest Craypat to identify bottlenecks
This workshop will have lectures from NCCS, NICS and Cray staff as well as hands-on sessions, where the staff will be available to work on your application with you. Past workshop have been extremely successful and you are encouraged to attend to get the most out of the fastest computers in the world.
